Lieutenant Colonel Paul B. Wursmith, the commander of the 49th Fighter Group, was appointed by General George C. Kenney as the Commander of V Fighter Command. After 10 days leave in Sydney Wursmith established the headquarters for 5 Fighter Command in Port Morseby.
