On 11 June 1942, Lieutenant Don Dittler of the 7th Fighter Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group, USAAF crashed near the mining town of Brocks Creek in the Northern Territory.

He was on a cross country training flight about 20 miles south east of Adelaide River airfield when his Allison engine started to overheat. He headed north and tried to nurse it back to the airfield. The engine burst into flames over Brocks Creek and Dittler parachuted safely out of the crippled Kittyhawk.

Can anyone help me with more information on this accident?
