B-17E FLYING FORTRESS DAMAGED BY FIRE

B-17E Flying Fortress

USAAF B-17E Flying Fortress #41-9012 of the 30th Bomb Squadron of the 19th Bombardment Group was damaged by fire at Mareeba airfield on 5 November 1942. 

B-17E #41-9012 burned to the ground while testing a faulty generator or starter motor. 

This photo was taken by Charles Montgomery Jr, an armourer for the 93rd Bomb Squadron.
The photo was kindly sent to Damian Waters by his son 'Chuck' Montgomery.
