CRASH OF A WIRRAWAY
8 KMS EAST OF LORQUON, VIC
ON 2 JULY 1945

On 2 July 1945, Flight Lieutenant Maxwell Ashdown (Service No. 295326) of 6 Service Flying Training School (6 SFTS) was killed when his Wirraway, based at Nhill airfield, crashed 8 kms east of Lorquon (12 mile north of Nhill) in Victoria. The Wirraway exploded on impact incinerating F/Lt. Ashdown.

F/Lt. Ashdown was buried at Nhill. He was born at Katanning, in Western Australia on 11 December 1918.
