CRASH OF A BOOMERANG
NEAR LAKE PINJAR, WA
ON 19 MARCH 1944

visits since 26 September 2003

Boomerang A46-162 of 85 Squadron RAAF, piloted by F/Lt Warbrooke, caught fire on 19 March 1944. F/Lt Warbrooke parachuted from the aircraft near Lake Pinjar in Western Australia. He was uninjured.

P/O John Doyle was flying in formation with F/Lt Warbrooke at the time of the incident. John Doyle said "I saw that his engine was on fire and I will never forget seeing him pull back at the cockpit hatch, climb out onto the wing and jump from his Boomerang. The plane headed for the deck and erupted in a mighty explosion."
