Whilst on a routine Patrol Flight, USN Vought OS2U-2, BU No. 3078, of VS-61 Squadron US Navy based at NOB Perth, crashed at 22.05S 115.85E, which plots as being approximately 113 miles East of Learmonth Airfield in Western Australia. It was piloted by Albert A. Ronning with crew member Floyd A. Simon.
