A few years ago I was intrigued by the news that someone had decided to pump the water out of the hole in the ground near Archerfield aerodrome. The story was that there was lots of World War 2 equipment dumped in the hole during and after the war. I spent many a day visiting the hole and watching with interest the various pieces of equipment that were dragged out of the hole.

On 2nd October 1998, I received an e-mail from Tony Nye after he visited one of my Military Home Pages and he mentioned:-

I live near Archerfield airfield, and was involved in the project to empty the hole near South's footie club. Some interesting objects came out of there, including the canopy off a Lincoln. If you would like to have a yack about that, and aircraft in general, .......

It was this e-mail from Tony Nye that triggered my interest in starting off a home page on the mysterious quarry.

On 31 March 1999 I received my first e-mail from Chris Jamesson, who was 2nd in charge of the quarry salvage operation in 1992.

And then on 1 April 1999, I received an e-mail from Terry Kelly, who headed up the salvage operation in 1992.

There have been many stories about secret tunnels between the quarry area and Archerfield airfield.
