Unique Ancestors

Along the way of collecting information on my ancestry I observed that there was a very interesting phenomena occurring with regard to the number of unique ancestors that were appearing out of the multitude of actual ones. This caused me to closely examine the data I had available, and to develop a theory regarding their distribution. I posted this information to the soc.genealogy.medieval newsgroup, the recently updated details of which can be found under

Racing Cars

My main interests in this area cover two home grown vehicles. The first one I helped design and build, and the other belongs to a friend and neighbour. These vehicles are:-

• DBF1300 . This is a specialised Hillclimb single seater racing car, owned and driven by John Davies. The car competes in the Australian 1300 cc class and has been very successful over a number of years now. It has been an exciting and rewarding experience to have followed the car from inception to success.  Check it out at 
• Merlin Streamliner . This is a special Streamliner Motorcycle initially powered by a 5 litre supercharged V-twin engine derived from the Rolls Royce V12 Merlin of WWII fame, but currently by a 5 litre V8 Ford engine. It is contesting the Motorcycle Land Speed Record and currentl;y holds an Australian class record. Lucky Keizer is the designer and builder of this rather special vehicle.  Look at details through    

Personal Motorsport

In 2006 I purchased my first sports car, thus triggering a personal venture into real motorsport. Initially running the car in various events at club level, in 2009 in conjunction with friend Mike Anderson we entered the tarmac rally scene in a previously built rally car. With this car we did a number of Australian Targa and other competitions with moderate success. While I have competed in other cars since, the main vehicles are:-

• BMW Z4 . The purchase of this as my road car actually saw my entry into club motorsport. The car was initially used for road touring assemblies, then hillclimbs and sprints. Competition use showed that the 2.5 litre automatic was a bit underpowered. Fitting of a supercharger and later a limited slip differential gave the car a big lift in performance. In both 2008 and 2009 the Targa Tasmania Tour (non-competitive) was run and was very enjoyable. In 2010 and 2011 the car was lent to friends who also ran in the Tour.  Check out the full details at 
• Daihatsu Charade . In order to compete properly in Targa Tasmania, my navigator Mike Anderson and I realised that a real rally car was required. We purchased an existing rally car and then went through a development phase to give it the best performance for tarmac rallying. The car was then used in local events before the proper Targa ones were entered. We have had very pleasing results with the car.  Check out the full details at:-  

Software

As a purely recreational programmer, I have written a number of small DOS and Windows programs to support my hobbies. These include a few utility programs, some technical ones to assist with the design of car suspensions and engine performance, and yet others to help with my genealogy obsession.
