Gailes Emergency Landing Ground (ELG) was built by Mr. R. Hornibrook in about May 1942 for the American military. It was located at 27.37 Lat and 152.56 Long. It was under the control of the RAAF. It was B-1 type airfield which means it had one runway greater than 800 yards long. It was used as a crash strip.

It was adjacent to the very large Darra Ordnance Ammunition Depot which is now mainly covered by the suburbs of Forest Lake and parts of Inala. There may have also been a hangar erected there as well.
