Waterford airfield was located to the SSW of Loganlea airfield during WW2. It was located running ENE across the site of today's Waterford West Primary School. It was located at 27.41 Lat. and 153.08 Long.

Waterford Airfield was initially constructed as a Dispersal field under RAAF supervision. It was a type A-1 airfield which meant it had one runway of greater than 1,200 yards.

It was transferred to the US forces at the same time as Archerfield. It became operational on 8 June 1943. The airfield was made available for practice landings and take-offs by US fighter aircraft by July 1943.

The runway comprised a graded strip which was compacted and then allowed to grass over. It was used by US Training aircraft. The summer rains saw it become unserviceable. There was apparently a single fighter arch type hideout (Igloo Hangar) located on the southern side of Kingston Road.

Contractor M.R. Hornibrook was contracted by the Americans to carry out camouflage work at Loganlea and Waterford airfields.
