USAAF B-17C Flying Fortress #40-2072, "Miss Every Morning Fix'n" (or "Miss E.M.F"), of the 46th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 317th Troop Carrier Group, crashed at Bakers Creek near Mackay on 14 June 1943, killing 40 of the 41 service personnel on board.

Mackay's Flying Fortress by Professor Robert S. Cutler, of George Washington University, tells the story of Australia's worst aviation disaster in which a US Air Force B-17C Flying Fortress airplane crashed shortly after taking off from Mackay. Qld., on 14 June 1943.

Mackay's Flying Fortress lifts the curtain on years of secrecy, examines the possible causes of the crash and pays tribute to the 40 American servicemen who were killed in the disaster.

The book also seeks to ensure the Bakers Creek story finds its proper place in the history of World War II.
