PETROL DUMP
BASNETT'S PROPERTY
HAMILTON ROAD, CHERMSIDE,

There was a petrol dump in Basnett's property on Hamilton Road, Chermside. The fuel was stored in small 4 gallon tins. The fuel dump was camouflaged from the air. It was initially guarded by U.S. soldiers and later by Australian soldiers. Dogs were tied to a wire along the perimeter of the Petrol Dump which allowed them to run up and down the full length of the perimeter fence.

There was a bomb and ammunition dump in Beneke's paddock in the bush near the corner of Webster Road and Rode Road. It was guarded by U.S. Negro soldiers.

The Civil Construction Corps (CCC) had a large camp near Ellison Road at Chermside in Brisbane during WW2.

A USAAF P-40 Kittyhawk crashed at nearby Camp Chermside in Brisbane in about 1944 about 50 metres from where the Kedron-Wavell RSL club is located. The AWAS camp was at the top of Kuran Street in Chermside.
