Doris Roberts, a part-aboriginal, was savagely murdered in Brisbane in 1944 by American Serviceman Private Avelino Fernandez. In an effort to avoid any negative public opinion, Private Fernandez was taken to New Guinea where he was executed at Oro Bay on 15 November 1944.
