P-40M Kittyhawk, A29-300 (#43-5415) was involved in an accident at Mildura airfield on 18 April 1943 when the pilot applied to turn on the airfield and the port and tail wheel retracted. The aircraft collapsed onto its belly.

P-40M Kittyhawk, A29-300 (#43-5415), of 2 OTU RAAF was then involved in a more tragic accident when it crashed at Gol Gol Gunnery Range, near Mildura in New South Wales on 26 July 1943. The pilot, P/O Joseph George Crowe, was killed. On diving at the target he pulled out too late and the aircraft hit the ground on the flat of it's belly, became air born again and spun in from a low height exploding on impact. The cause of the accident was determined as pilot error.
