CRASH OF A P-40E KITTYHAWK
AT WILLIAMTOWN, NSW
ON 2 FEBRUARY 1942

visits since 30 April 2001

At 0920 hours on 2 February 1942 , USAAF P-40E Kittyhawk, #41-36095, damaged its propeller on landing at Williamtown airfield, NSW. The pilot was B.W. Headrick of the 9th Pursuit Squadron, 49th Pursuit Group. The report indicated "awaiting supply prop for local repairs".

This aircraft went on to become A29-108 of 75 Squadron RAAF. It was eventually lost to enemy action on 25 August 1942. It was last seen intercepting enemy fighters and bombers in New Guinea. The body of Pilot Officer S. Munro was later recovered in the vicinity of the headwaters of the Arada River.
