CRASH OF A P-40E KITTYHAWK
AT NOWRA, NSW

9 MARCH 1942

On 9 March 1942, USAAF P-40E Kittyhawk, Serial No. #41-24819, 7th Pursuit Squadron, 49th Pursuit Group, piloted by a J?.I. Childress, made a forced landing at Nowra in New South Wales after oil covered the windscreen and reduced visibility. The left wing, landing gear and propeller were damaged in the crash. The Aircraft was relocated to Bankstown after the crash on 26 March 1942.

 

Was the pilot injured?
