CRASH OF A CATALINA
ON A SUBMERGED REEF NEAR BOWEN LIGHTHOUSE,
BOWEN, QLD ON 27 MAY 1943

RAAF PBY-5 Catalina, A24-48 (previous Serial No. USN 08268), was wrecked on a submerged reef during take off near Bowen lighthouse on 27 May 1943.

The wreck became Instructional Airframe No. 1. It is presumed that it was eventually scrapped.

This aircraft was originally delivered to the RAAF in April 1943.
