B-26 Marauder, #40-1480, "Thunderbird", of the 2nd Bomb Squadron, 22nd Bomb Group, crashed a couple of miles away from Woodstock in north Queensland on 9 March 1943 (I initially had this as 9 March 1942). They had used more fuel than anticipated and had run out of fuel. Private Emil H. Erickson died from head injuries when he fell out of the tail section after the crash. The Pilot was Captain Harry O. Patteson.

Members of the
22nd Bomb Group
inspect an unidentified B-26 Marauder that made
an emergency landing on the Pressed Steel Matting (PSP) at Woodstock in 1942.
