CRASH OF A BOOMERANG
AT GUILDFORD AIRFIELD, WA
27 DECEMBER 1943

Boomerang A46-68 of 85 Squadron RAAF, piloted by F/Sgt W.J. Turnbull, had an engine failure during a flight in the Guildford area on 27 December 1943. He returned to Guildford airfield and lowered his wheels to land on the runway close to the Great Eastern Highway. The wheels of the aircraft snagged in a ditch and the aircraft overturned. F/Sgt Turnbull died from a broken neck. He was buried at Karrakatta War Cemetery on 29 December 1943.

S/Ldr B. Nicholls, DFC was appointed President and F/O F.J. Chalmers was appointed a member of the Court of Enquiry to investigate this tragic accident.
