EASTERN AREA HEADQUARTERS
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII

RAAF Eastern Area Headquarters was formed at "Kilmory", 6 Wentworth Street, Edgecliff, Sydney, New South Wales on 15 May 1942 under establishment H.D. 160, in accordance with A.F.C.O. 77/1942.
The role of Eastern Area Headquarters was to "administer all operational units in the area between the Murray River and the Tropic of Capricorn excluding No. 7 Aircraft Depot, Corowa and No. 2 Central Reserve, Albury."
A.C.H. Sydney functioned operationally as of midnight, 25 May 1942. I believe that ACH stands for Area Combined Headquarters.
Air Vice Marshall W.H. Anderson was posted form A.F.H.Q. to become Air Officer Commanding for Eastern Area HQ from 16 May 1942. His Personal Assistant was F/Lt R.N. Hammant (2010).

By 31 May 1942 numbers had increased to 72 officers and 183 other ranks.
By 30 June 1942 they had increased again to 115 officers and 375 other ranks. This included 36 VAOC officers, 46 personnel in No. 1 Fighter Sector, and 7 personnel from the Weather Bureau.
