Vultee Vengeance

At 1000 hours EST, on 27 October 1942, Vultee Vengeance A27-10 of 12 Squadron RAAF, force landed at Oodnadatta. The pilot was unable to get the undercarriage down. They had a load of "grog" in their bomb bay. Lex Dwyer told me that none of the bottles were broken during the forced landing. They were able to lift the aircraft off the ground to open the bomb bay to recover the precious cargo.

The airframe of the aircraft received extensive damage. The pilot Flight Sergeant A.J. Bond and his crew member Flight Sergeant T.H. Blanche were uninjured.
