SHOOTING IN GEORGE STREET, BRISBANE

Australian naval rating, Able Seaman David Wren, was shot dead by an American MP called Fountain Williams in George Street, Brisbane on the night of 19 January 1943.

The official records state that Wren’s death was the result of misadventure. Fountain Williams was court martialed and was eventually jailed.
