DISTURBANCE AT A DANCE IN THE INGHAM TOWN HALL

In November 1942 a number of Negro servicemen attempted to attend a dance in the Ingham Town Hall. The dance was posted as Off Limits to them. They refused to leave and some of them were arrested.

Later that night at about 11 pm about 50 Negro servicemen were intercepted at the Ingham Town Hall by the American Military Police. When requested to present their Leave Passes they started to abuse the MP's and 2 of the Negroes drew their guns on the MP's. The MP's were eventually able to retrieve the guns from the 2 Negro servicemen who were subsequently arrested.
