MILITARY CAMP IN NEWTOWN PARK
TOOWOOMBA, QLD
DURING WORLD WAR 2

During World War 2, many Australian and American units were located in Toowoomba, Queensland, and a tent city was established in Newtown Park, one of Toowoomba's older parks. After all this time and much lobbying, that part of history is now going to be remembered as the local Toowoomba city council and some individuals are re-vegetating and renovating the park as a memorial. There were halls, and other buildings located there during the war years, but sadly, no photographs are available to show what Newton Park looked like during World War 2.

James Crighton is seeking any photographs or stories about Newtown Park during World War 2.

John Albion, at Pinetrees Nursery, Toowoomba, is one of the coordinators of the scheme. His wife, Regina is a councilor on the Toowoomba City Council, and they are very appreciative of any information you may be able to lay your hands on.
