On 27 April 1943 RAAF Vultee Vengeance A27-214 was carrying out circuits and landings to familiarise the pilot with controls and general characteristics of these aircraft. The aircraft crashed on landing and caught fire near the boundary fence at Laverton airfield.  The Pilot, Sgt. R.R. Munro was killed and F/O M.W. Baker (back seat ) was injured.

Sergeant R.R. Munro had earlier survived a collision between Kittyhawks A29-173 and A29-181 over New South Wales on 13 April 1943.
