Early in WW2, Lindsay Braden was a passenger on the Paddle Steamer "Weeroona.". As they were sailing down Port Philip Bay a Seaplane was visible in the far distance. The Steamer hurried to the spot after black smoke appeared. When they arrived at the scene, the aircraft had burnt and disappeared, and the two uninjured crew members were treading water. They were taken on board and disembarked at Queenscliff. The seaplane had taken off earlier from Point Cook.
